Robert College Augmented Reality Laboratory was designed as a hybrid learning and research environment that integrates augmented reality technologies into the everyday spatial experience of education. The project approaches the relationship between physical space and digital layers not merely as a matter of technological infrastructure, but as a new pedagogical tool capable of transforming spatial perception and interaction.

Before Intervention



The laboratory is structured around a flexible interior configuration where students can learn through experience, conduct research, and interact with digital content. Its architectural language is shaped by the concepts of openness, adaptability, and technological focus. Moving beyond the conventional classroom layout, the learning process is no longer defined by a fixed orientation or a singular point of attention, but through multilayered interactions, movement, and embodied experience.

The design aims to transform the invisible data layers of augmented reality into part of a spatial scenario. In this sense, the laboratory becomes more than a room equipped with technology; it operates as an experimental learning interface that continuously connects the physical environment, the user’s body, screens, data, and virtual content.

Robert College AR Lab offers a pioneering example of how next-generation technologies can be spatialized within educational environments. Positioned at the intersection of architecture, education, and augmented reality, the project proposes a flexible, research-driven, and experience-oriented model for the future of learning spaces.

Completed in 2021, the project was selected for the BIG SEE Architecture & Interior Design Awards 2024 Curator’s Shortlist.
