VR Art Gallery at Istanbul Comics & Art Festival
2016
The project began with the idea that emerging digital tools could turn visitors from spectators into active contributors. Rather than designing a virtual gallery as a fixed exhibition space, we imagined it as a collective environment shaped by the people participating in the festival. Visitors were invited to contribute their own ideas and creative work, which became part of a shared virtual exhibition.
By bringing together virtual reality, spatial design and participatory production, the project questioned the conventional relationship between artwork, gallery and audience. The exhibition space no longer needed to follow the physical limitations of a conventional gallery; instead, it could grow and transform as new contributions entered the experience.
Presented at ICAF in Istanbul in September 2016, VR Art Gallery was one of Apollo’s early experiments with immersive environments and collective authorship. It became part of a broader exploration into how digital space could operate not simply as a representation of architecture, but as a social and spatial environment in its own right.
